Recreational resources

  • The Kuban river floodplain is of interest in the development of a recreational area.
  • On the banks of the river, near Abinsk district, there is a pine grove, ponds in the villages of Vasilievskiy and Pokrovskiy. They are well-known for its wildlife and lotus flowers.
  • An appealing hunting spot is the steppe reservoir called Borisinkovsky Estuary located behind the village of Krasny Oktyabr. This reservoir is fed by springs, maintains a constant water level and freshness, features blooming lilies, and is rich in wildlife such as ducks, geese, and swans.
  • In the flat area of the district, there are two reservoirs, Kryukovskoye and Varnavinskoye, along with a connecting channel that is a popular spot for fishermen.
  • A special place in recreational resources is held by mineral springs, which offer valuable therapeutic benefits. Groundwater reserves have not been fully investigated.
  • The area of the hunting grounds is 8,044 hectares.

  • Regional natural landmarks include the alpine meadows of Lysykh mountains, Chubataya and Shize mountains, the mountain-geological formation known as “Monasteries,” various dolmens, and many more.
  • The forest area covers 69,139 hectares, while the specially protected territories cover 22 hectares.
  • Natural attractions within the forest reserve in the municipality of Abinsk district that can be showcased to tourists include the Big Adegoy waterfall, Devil’s Pulpit rock, Svintsovayaya (Lead) mountain, Papaya Saw mountain range, and more.

Big Shapsug Dolmen

Big Shapsug Dolmen is a type of funerary structure dating back to 1.5 thousand years BC. It is situated near the former channel of the Shapsugskaya river in Abinsk urban settlement. While similar structures can be found across Krasnodar region, only a few of them are well-preserved.

Glade of century-old oaks

Glade of Century-old oaks is a regional landmark and one of the main tourist attractions in Abinsk district. This unique natural spot is situated along the scenic Abinsk – Shapsugskaya road.

The oaks in this glade, symbolizing eternity and power, played an important role in the life of local mountain tribes, who turned to them for help and kept their sacred relics under their crowns

Mount Papay

Mount Papay, which is the highest point of the mountain range, called by the locals “Papaya Saw”, is of great interest to tourists. Despite its elevation of 818.8 meters above sea level, this peak and its surroundings attract an increasing number of travelers every year, not only from nearby areas but also from the entire region.

There are several plants listed in the Red Book of Krasnodar region, including the common beetle, berry yew, and tall juniper.

Stone mushrooms

Stone mushrooms are a fascinating natural wonder found in the beautiful Temnaya crevice, near Novy settlement. This unique landscape took shape over thousands of years during the formation of the mountains. The layering of various rocks like gravel, sand, and sturdy sandstone created a distinctive “pie” formation, which has been gradually eroded over time.

Adegoy waterfalls

The Adegoy waterfalls are situated in Ivanovsky Yar crevice on the left tributary of the Adegoy river, 7 kilometers away from the village of Shapsugskaya. These waterfalls are at their fullest from November to June, while their water flow significantly decreases during the summer months from July to September. The Adegoy waterfall complex comprises multiple waterfalls, with the most remarkable ones being the Big and Small Adegoy waterfalls.
